Little Baby Steps
I have never been an out front type of guy, but neither have I been a good follower. Bearing in mind the statement "Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way" I grudgingly attempted to get out of the way. At times I tried to point a bit, to help the Leader receive a small sense of direction, but when I got too enthusiastic with my guidance, it seems I'd gain a scar or have another tooth knocked out.
So I tried the Get Out of the Way approach for awhile, But sometimes, no matter how artfully you dodge, you still get your tail run over. The crowd has grown too unpredictable, and if you want an intact tail, perhaps the time has come to look for the path , and decide which tool you are going to use. Whether picking a new tool, or refurbishing a trusted but neglected old tool, the direction is picked, all that remains is to start.
But Please don't mistake passivity for weakness, or the occasional failure to find that right word as stupidity. The greatest gladiator's sword often became dulled from the hacking, and the scholar's eyes grew weary as the light grew dim.
And that describes where I am today. I've My-spaced and Face-booked in a uneducated sort of way, and decided to build this place slowly, that it might turn it into something sturdy but interesting, worthy of leaving for the next generation. Out of the main action, but close enough so that my directions can be heard, so all of these my most painfully learned lessons will have meant something.
But I could use a bit of support and encouragement from those that have passed before me. Or in other words: "Be Gentle, it's my First Time."
